Principal report
Mr. Grossman welcomed all the new members to the H&S.

Mr. Grossman would like ideas for speakers for this year.
Last year Dr. Guy and Franklin County Streetsmarts presented programs to the school. We discussed internet abuse and everyone agreed that October would be a good time for a computer program for parents to become more informed about what children are doing on the intranet and behaviors to look for off campus.
Nancy stated she would like someone to come talk to the students about intranet usage.

Mr. Grossman would like topics for speakers to come to the school:
some topics discussed were: middle school adjustment for changing subjects and teachers, warning signs of depression and having a speaker present to the boys since last year we had a speaker for the girls.

Mr. Grossman talked about the grant program that was started this summer. Two groups applied and split the money. The kindergarten teachers worked on the Stevens Reading program. The second group learned how to use the interactive white boards, which are the Smart Boards that involve a projector for teaching in the classroom. All of the teachers will be in serviced. Twelve white boards have been ordered. At the next H&S meeting a teacher will come demonstrate the white board.

August 31st is curriculum night for 6-8th grade at 7pm
September 7th is curriculum night for K-5
H&S will be present to collect dues.
The ice cream social is the 21st and the fingerprint machine will be at school.

Mr. Grossman asked for help from the H&S to purchase bibles for 5th and 6th grade. Mr. Grossman will email Nancy with the cost so we can vote by email.

The new librarian is Jessica Klinker. On the 21st we will have a sign up sheet for parent volunteers for the library.
The new first grade teacher is Maura Joyce who has a strong reading background and has taught at Worthington.

OLD Business
Recycling program update: Sherri Rinderle has contacted Abitibi Consolidated to set up a paper products recycling program. The bin will be to the left of the present dumpster and will be for the whole community to use. Abitibi will send speakers to the school and will provide us with posters and stickers. The school will be paid by the weight. Sherri will contact them to see if they can bring the large bin to the school by the 21st. No decision was made but everyone wants the second graders to be involved with the recycling program since it was their idea to begin the program.
The H&S website is linked to the Immaculate Conception site. Sign-ups, reminders and all the fund raising done at IC is on the website.

The Mission statement of the H&S was presented by Nancy: The Mission of the H&S Association is to coordinate the spiritual and educational forces of the home and school in a program of Catholic child training. Our goals are: to offer well planned programs, information of particular interest to students and parents, to encourage the maintenance of high standards of family life and to instill a greater appreciation of Catholic education.
The $10 fee was discussed and everyone agreed that the fee should not change. The fees are collected to help get us started, they pay for the student directory and the start up money we give to the teachers at the beginning of the year.

New Business
August 21st is Open house and committee sign-ups. The teachers will be in the Marian center and outside to meet the students and parents.

The school supply sale will be from 9-1pm in the gym. Paula stated she will be setting up friday night starting at 5pm. On the first day of school there will be a table set out for students to buy their supplies.
Lisa stated the adding machines are in bad shape . She will look into the cost of replacing the machines so we can have new machines at the school sale.

Nancy would like to continue to have a H&S newsletter coordinator. Crissy volunteered to be the coordinator.

H&S Minutes have never been sent out in the friday folders. This year, H&S minutes will be available on the H&S website.

Next meeting is September 13th at 7pm
