Opening prayer: Chrissy Wakefield
Treasurer's Report:
Lisa Horan presented a YTD summary budget for the 06/07
school year which shows a cash balance of $18,526.46 to start off the year.
Expenditures at the beginning of the year include teacher appreciation,
school supply sale, and the At a Glance. Lisa indicated she planned to
attend the school supply sale to collect H&S dues.
Principal report:
Mr. Grossman indicated that there was no staff turnover
for the 06/07 school year, although Mrs. Brady is taking a one-year leave of
absence. Ms. Kane (Mrs.Karpenko after 9/2), who substituted during last
year during Mrs. Brady's adoption leave, will be taking her place for the
year. Elaine Lemeshow, LD tutor, is also taking a year's leave of absence.
She will be replaced by Valerie Altfater. Ms. Altfater is thinking of
instituting a school study table after school twice a week.
A lot of work,
particularly painting, has occurred during the summer. New whiteboards
have been installed in three classrooms and almost all classrooms
now contain a Smartboard and projector.
Doug Holcomb is in
charge of publicity and H&S
should let him know about a month ahead of scheduled events so
he can coordinate publicity. September 6 is the opening liturgy
which is hosted by the H&S.
John is always interested in providing
programming of interest to parents and would like to know of
any thoughts or ideas. The YES program will be continuing this
year for grades 1-4. Another Career Day will be held for grades
6-8.
Two teacher grants were awarded; the first
was initiated by Ms. Cavello and Mrs. Reeb to develop a library
of Liturgy materials for the classroom. The second grant was
for a Reading Intervention program and was spearheaded by Mrs.
Ireton. The teachers will come to a future H&S meeting to discuss their projects.
Old Business:
Christmas Boutique: Patti Kayler gave an update on the Christmas boutique.
She has been buying steadily throughout the year. Her next step is to go
through the inventory from past boutiques. Her biggest concern at the
moment is the raffle. An open discussion regarding the raffle ensued.
Thoughts included: discontinuing the raffle, only having 1 - 3 "large
ticket" items in the raffle, have a pre-raffle to win "boutique dollars",
raffle free items such as a dress down day, use gift cards as the raffle
items. It was decided to postpone any decisions on the raffle till the
September meeting.
Market Day: Joan Hawkins stated that
after 5 years she is no longer able to be Market Day Chairperson.
If a Chairperson is not located, the program may be discontinued.
Joan indicated that the program could be run by a committee.
She has developed step-by-step instructions on what is required
and she is also willing to train someone. It was decided to
focus on the need for a Market Day Chairperson/committee in
the Welcome Letter.
Gift Certificates: A new Script program
will be initiated which will allow families to earn tuition
credit at I.C. and at Watterson. Nancy Noll will be meeting
with Monsignor and Carolyn Smith to work out the particulars.
She and Yvonne Dawson will lead up the program although they
will probably require 2-4 additional volunteers. This is a
one year trial program. Nancy Wygle moved, Sabrina Gray seconded
to pay the $350 for the required software. John indicated that
a computer would be made available in the school for use by
program volunteers. There will be a link on the I.C. website
to order online and local merchants can be added to the list.
Kroger, Giant Eagle, Weilands, and Speedway will not be available
for tuition credit but may be purchased from church after masses.
New Business :
Hospitality Donuts: H&S is responsible for hospitality after mass Sunday,
September 3. Volunteers were recruited.
Curriculum Night: Curriculum nights are
September 7 for grades 5-8 and September 14 for grades K-4.
Since there is no ice cream social this year, H&S will be setting up tables in Marion Hall for sign-ups as part of these
evenings. Parents will be in Marion Hall for 15-20 minutes prior to moving
on to the classrooms.
At a Glance: This will be updated. John
asked to see the final draft as a couple of activities have
been added since last year. It would be nice to have these
available for parents to pick-up on curriculum night.
Opening Agenda:
Wendy Jenkins is in charge of the program to find mentors
for new families.
It was noted that the school supply sale should be
earlier next year. Having school begin on a Monday made for the awkward
timing this year.
Anton Wilsback introduced himself as the new playground
duty coordinator. He is looking for volunteers, particularly for the first
week of school.
Next Meeting: September 12, 2006 at 7 p.m. in the school office. All are Welcome!
(Note: This meeting was later cancelled due to the curriculum
nights).
Meeting Adjourned,
Respectfully submitted,
Missy Lodge , ICH&SA Secretary
