Minutes October 11,2005

Update to the minutes given by Mr. Grossman:
Bibles were purchased for the 4th,5th and 6th grade. September minutes approved.

Tresurer's Report:
Year to date figures were given. The balance in the account as of October 11,2005 is $20,947.07

Principal report
by John Grossman
A thank you to Phil's wife,Elizabeth, for sorting all the new gym uniforms.
Next Wednesday on the 19th is the World Wide Web program at 7pm in the Marion Hall. Julia Bell has made a flyer which will be in the friday folders
There are several religous functions this month. An Eucharistic service will be held at 2pm this thursday. A Rosary service will be at 12:30pm October 20th.
At the pricipal meetings they have been talking about fundraising. Talk has been about maybe boosting our script programs.
All information for the monthly newsletter needs to be given to Luci by the 21st.
The Accelerated Reader program has been started in the library. Books are tagged in the library with the appropriate reading level for the students. Once a student reads the book, they take a test on the computer. Mr. Grossman would like H&S to support an incentive program. Nancy would like to know more information on the program. Mr. Grossman said he will have the librarian come talk with H&S. The librarian has contacted Whetstone library to check with them what books are popular. The goal is to expand our adolescent books. Phil suggested we could give a certain amount of money a month. Sue made the motion to support the incentive reader program with H&S funds. The motion was passed to give $250.
The kick off for the program will be in November.

Parish Report

Carolyn reported on the the lack of ventilation in the gym. Roger Fields who is an engineer was contacted and he looked at our present ventilation system. Option 3,4,5 were chosen. Michele stated 3,4, and 5 will have an efficiency of 67%. The cost would be $15,000 and the Athletic Association would like to share the cost of the project. Contractors have been contacted and they may have a different perspective. We don't really know the prices. Bids are to be given by Hazlett, Bruner and Julian Speer.
H&S will have a meeting with the Athletic Asssociation once the bids are presented to the school. Fundraising was discussed, but it is hard to find time and the manpower needed. Sue stated we have fundraising already in place and we should really promote it to raise funds for the gym. Nancy will contact Bob for a meeting.

OLD Business
Nancy presented:
Bids are to be given on the Art room kiln wiring. Once the bids are received an internet vote will be done.
Kathy will buy jumpropes for the playground equipment.
Alice Lieberman contacted the St. Louis school in Baton Rouge
and 75 uniforms were sent. She received a thank you and sent them a note to see what they need but she hasn't heard back from them yet.
Maureen Carroll talked with Nancy about the Student/Parent dance. She would like to get a date picked and would also like money for a DJ and refreshments. Mr. Grossman suggested she talk with the dance club so Cheryl will call her.

New Business
A Christmas Boutique chairman is needed. The Jeffers have done a lot of the work for this year. Parents are needed to work with the Jeffers.
Crissy will send a note in the newsletter. She will call Gary.
Michele Sapp from the IC Women's Club contacted H&S and stated the Women's Club is asking for $100 a year from H&S to buy paper products for the kitchen. Nancy stated she bought cups and coffee for the donut social and this would save us from having to go buy the products. Motion was given and passed to give $100 a year to the Women's Club.

Open Agenda
Sue talked about a program called Toolbox for Education. Lori Yersavich writes grants and she will write a grant if we can present a project.
Up to $5,000 can be received. The first cycle is November 1st and the second is March 15th. The online address is ToolboxforEducation.com
Lori is on the school board so John will talk with her next week about the program.
A freezer was purchased for the school lunch program.
Cindy Miller needs parent volunteers every Tuesday for the technology room from 1:15-2:45pm.
